Vintage Moussec 48 "Baby Bottle" Crate

Vintage Moussec crate for 48 "Baby Bottles". The crate has unusual hinges (please see photographs).

Moussec was a popular sparkling alcoholic drink in Britain, similar to Babycham.

As with Babycham, Moussec was designed to be exotic like champagne, and was served in a champagne coupe: one advertisement boasted "Champagne Strength, Champagne Character". It came in sweet and dry versions.

Dry Moussec and brandy was considered the height of sophistication in many pubs before and during the war. (See photo of the wartime poster of Father Christmas, which shows the "Baby Bottles" that the case would originally have held.)

Moussec Ltd was formed in 1915 but became dormant in the 1980s.
